Would Cedric Benson Fill the Void Left by Michael Bush?

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson has recently been linked to the Oakland Raiders. There is no question about it that the Raiders top running back is the elite Darren McFadden, but there isn’t much depth behind him. Yes the Raiders did make a trade with the Carolina Panthers for Mike Goodson, but with McFadden never playing more than 13 games in a season during his four year career so far, you have to wonder if the Oakland Raiders have faith in Mike Goodson to carry the load if McFadden needs to sit a few games due to an injury. With the Raiders noted interest in Bengals starting running back of the past four seasons, Cedric Benson, it seems apparent that the Raiders would like more insurance at the running back position.

Cedric Benson is surprisingly still a free agent, but with the talented Michael Bush no longer available to spell McFadden when needed, the Raiders are looking at Benson to be that reliable backup needed to limit McFadden’s carries. Benson has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past three seasons, and the available role looks like a fit for both Benson and the Raiders. With training camp a little more than a month away, expect the Raiders to try to come to terms with Benson sooner than later.
